Cambodia accelerates the construction and development of new energy projects

On the 19th local time, the Cambodian Investment Committee, which is affiliated with the Cambodian Development Council, held a special meeting to review and discuss the registration applications of 7 qualified investment projects, including 4 new energy generation projects.

This will further promote the development of clean energy and the layout of energy transformation in the country.According to the announcement released by the Cambodian Development Council on the same day, the four new energy investment projects under review are a 200 MW solar power station, a 100 MW solar power station, a 30 MW solar power station, and a large-scale energy storage battery system project with an installed capacity of 500 MW.

This is an important progress made by the Cambodian government in actively promoting the transformation of energy structure. In recent years, Cambodia has continued to expand its investment in new energy sectors such as solar energy, wind power, and energy storage systems, in order to achieve the government's goal of renewable energy accounting for at least 70% of the country's electricity structure by 2030.

Since the beginning of this year, the Development Council of Cambodia has approved multiple investment projects for wind and solar power plants, including a wind power plant project in Mondulkiri Province with an investment of approximately $200 million approved in February, as well as a 150 MW wind power plant and a 350 MW solar power plant project approved in April.

On April 10th of this year, the groundbreaking ceremony for Cambodia's first gigawatt pumped storage power station, jointly invested and developed by China Heavy Machinery Co., Ltd., Erzhong (Deyang) Heavy Equipment Co., Ltd., and Southern Power Grid Lancang Mekong International Energy Co., Ltd., was held in the province of Cambodia. This is also a core project in the list of key projects for China Cambodia capacity cooperation.

Local professionals believe that the construction and deployment of more and more new energy projects will further enhance the stability and sustainability of Cambodia's power supply, providing driving support for the development of industry, agriculture, and tourism.
