Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Chambers of Commerce from China, the United States, Europe, Japan, and South Korea Discuss Paths to Promote Collaborative De
Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice President of the Development Council of Cambodia, stated on the 6th (local time) that the Cambodian government will continue to deepen reforms, optimize the business environment, and attract more high-quality enterprises to invest in Cambodia. He called for collaboration between the government and enterprises to promote Cambodia's development towards high value-added manufacturing and the upstream of the supply chain.
The third Public-Private Sector Breakfast Exchange Meeting, guided by the Council for the Development of Cambodia and hosted by the Cambodian-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, was held in Phnom Penh on the same day. Sun Zhantuo led officials from relevant ministries and commissions of the Cambodian government to attend. Xue Dong, Minister-Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia, and diplomats from many countries in Cambodia, as well as representatives from the Cambodian General Chamber of Commerce, American Chamber of Commerce, European Chamber of Commerce, Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Korean Chamber of Commerce, and enterprises, attended the meeting.
The theme of this event is "Strengthening the Foundations of the Supply Chain - Supporting Industrial Transformation in Cambodia". Participants from both government and business discussed ways to optimize the business environment and promote collaborative development within the industrial chain.
In his speech, Xue Dong introduced the current development status of China-Cambodia economic and trade relations, encouraged governments and enterprises to strengthen communication and promote the expansion of economic and trade cooperation, and put forward three initiatives: continue to create a market-oriented, law-based, and international business environment; advocate for all enterprises in Cambodia to operate in compliance and deeply cultivate local markets; and look forward to strengthening horizontal collaboration among chambers of commerce from various countries.
Xue Dong stated that as a bridge between the public and private sectors, chambers of commerce from various countries can accurately convey the demands of enterprises and forge industry consensus. China is willing to work with the Cambodian government and the business community of various countries to uphold the global free trade system, ensure the stability and smoothness of the global production and supply chain, deepen bilateral and multilateral economic and trade cooperation, boost Cambodia's economic growth, and share the dividends of development.
In his concluding speech, Sun Zhantuo pointed out that Cambodia has abundant upstream raw material resources and a mature downstream assembly industry, but there is a significant gap in the midstream supporting industries, which restricts its long-term industrial competitiveness. The Cambodian government will make the development of the midstream industrial chain its strategic core, implement four supporting policies, connect the industrial chain, retain industrial value, and build industrial resilience.
These supporting policies include relying on leading enterprises to attract investment, introducing midstream leading enterprises, and addressing the shortcomings in the Cambodian industrial chain; implementing targeted incentives, linking tax and land preferential policies to the actual performance of local supporting enterprises; reducing infrastructure costs, subsidizing clean energy investment, and promoting the sharing and common use of supporting facilities in the park; strengthening compliance management, and building a full-process verification and certification service system for the origin of products.
