The 4th Lancang Mekong Regional Electric Power Technology and Standards Exchange Conference was held in Kunming

On October 13th, the 4th Lancang Mekong Regional Electric Power Technology and Standards Exchange Conference was held in Kunming, Yunnan. The conference, with the theme of "Promoting Cooperation through Standards: Building a Lancang Mekong Green and Low Carbon Power Community", gathered around 70 leaders, experts, and technical personnel from power companies in China, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, and Malaysia in Chuncheng to discuss regional power standard docking and technical cooperation.

This conference is hosted by the Transmission and Distribution Department and International Department of China Southern Power Grid Corporation, organized by China Southern Power Grid Scientific Research Institute, China Southern Power Grid Lancang Mekong International Company, Yunnan Power Grid Corporation, and co organized by Lancang Mekong Consulting Company.

2026 marks the eleventh anniversary of the launch of the Lancang Mekong Cooperation mechanism. In January 2023, the Lancang Mekong Regional Electricity Technology Standards Promotion Association, jointly initiated by enterprises from China, Cambodia, Laos, and Thailand, was officially established, building an "international bridge" for the compatibility of regional electricity standard systems and power interconnection. The Lancang Mekong Regional Electricity Technology and Standards Exchange Conference has been successfully held three times since 2023 in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Haikou, promoting regional electricity cooperation from a memorandum of understanding on paper to engineering practice.

This conference has achieved a new expansion of cooperation: Malaysia has sent representatives to attend for the first time, and the "circle of friends" for Lancang Mekong power cooperation has been extended from the six Lancang Mekong countries to a broader Southeast Asian region. At the meeting, representatives from China Southern Power Grid Corporation, China Southern Power Lancang Mekong International Corporation, Yunnan Power Grid Corporation, as well as Cambodia Power Company, Laos State Power Company, Laos National Transmission Grid Company, Myanmar Ministry of Electricity, Thailand National Power Generation Authority, Vietnam Electricity Group, and Malaysian participating institutions spoke successively, sharing their practices and thoughts in the fields of smart grid, new power system, and renewable energy development around themes such as standard guidance, digital empowerment, and green low-carbon.

During the conference, five standardized technical reports on key areas of energy and power in the Lancang Mekong region were released, covering topics such as power grid disaster prevention and reduction, regional power grid technology practice, renewable energy development, and the application of Chinese technical standards in Laos, providing new technical support for regional power standard coordination.

During the conference, representatives from various countries also visited the Yunnan Power Grid Company's technology innovation achievement transformation and incubation base, the Chengnan Intelligent Patrol and Maintenance Demonstration Zone, the Panlong Power Supply Bureau charging station, the Xishan Baicao Village Demonstration Zone, and the Disaster Prevention and Reduction Laboratory to gain a close understanding of the achievements and applications of Southern Power Grid in the fields of technology innovation, intelligent operation and maintenance, green charging, and disaster prevention and reduction.

Since the launch of the Lancang Mekong Cooperation mechanism, China Southern Power Grid Corporation has continued to deepen practical cooperation with power enterprises in Mekong River countries, actively promote cross-border networking and power trade, and promote the docking and application of Chinese power technology standards in the region. Taking this conference as a new starting point, all parties will further leverage the platform of the Lancang Mekong Regional Electric Power Technology Standards Promotion Association, work together to promote the "soft connectivity" of rules and standards, and contribute to regional energy interconnection and green low-carbon transformation.
